Subject: [alt-beam] Re: SE-lot car races
I put an SE in one of those X-V Racers...I don't know what kind of cap is
in it but it is huge (in value not size). It takes forever to charge but
when it finally
fires up the little critter can really move. Usually right into the
nearest wall and tumping over (it never occured to me to put it on a
track). I tried using the standard 4700 cap but
the motor is too crummy to even turn the shaft with no load. I am in the
process of trying to replace the motor with a more efficient one.
Quick question: are y'all actually using slot cars (the kind with the
keeper pin on the botton of the car and a grove in the center of the
track) or are y'all just using slot car as a more generic term. I wonder
because I have not seen a true slot car in ages and was not even sure they
were still in production.
BTW I found a nice little airplane that works on same principle as the X-V
Racers (battery charges a large cap and then it flies off). It is free
flying with no RC. It has a set screw for the rudder so you can adjust it
to fly straight or in a circle. One problem...all the electronics are
packaged in the body of the plane which is made of formed styrofam making
them very hard to get at without causing more than cosmetic damage to the
plane. Does any one have any suggestions on how I might proceed without
ruining the the styrofoam body?
FYI...it is called a Skybot and the kit is produced by Cox and it cost
around $30.00
