Yes, this can be done with 2 electret microphones installed in short tubes
to make them directional. This would cause the head with the mikes to turn
until the sound level at each mike is equal. The problem may be that at low
sound levels, the sound of the headgearheadmotor may make it try to look at
itself like a doggy chasing it's own tail!
