In particular, look at the stuff starting with "Dark Response". Tilden's
method seems to really be the simplest: one resistor is used in series
with the sensors to limit the minimum resistance in bright light (which
limits the frequency of oscillation -- if the frequency is too high, you'll
be wasting power without getting anything done) and another in parallel to
the sensors to limit the maximum resistance in the dark (which, because it
keeps the frequency above some minimum, prevents the swing from getting too
large.)
Unfortunately, however, although this is an elegant solution it doesn't fix
the problem of asymmetrical swing.
