Subject: [alt-beam] BEAM index site
Hi, list:
For those of you who aren't in on the secret yet, I put up the start of
a BEAM index site at:
http://www3.bc.sympatico.ca/rfws/bwi/
There's no new content here -- it just points to other peoples web
pages. What's different about it is that it attempts to organize the
information in useful ways. So, for example, when you look up someone's
two-motor walker, you go directly to the web page about that walker --
not to the home page of a BEAM web site. You'll probably find the index
most suitable for research or ideas.
Right now the only actual index is the "motion" category. It is by no
means complete, but you'll get the idea of what I'm trying to do here.
As you'll see, I still have lots of work to do -- and I need to know
about YOUR robots.
I can also use suggestions about new motion categories (I completely
overlooked aquatic devices), and ideas for better organizing the
"roller" category.
For each page I reference, I try to give you some idea of what you're
getting into -- for example, how many images and how much bandwidth they
take up.
I tried to contact everyone who's pages I listed. All the replies were
supportive; a few people didn't reply so I assumed it was OK with them;
and a couple of addresses were no longer valid. If you see your stuff on
this index and you really don't want it there, just let me know.
So take a look, let me know what you think, tell me about more robots,
tell me how you'd do things differently. And don't worry if you don't
hear back from me for a few days -- this @#$%^& computer has to go in
for surgery tomorrow.
As Wilf says, enjoy.
Bruce
