Subject: [alt-beam] Hextile prizes, BEAM on TV and a 6'5" Jawa.

The Hextiles have arrived...
http://www.geocities.com/SouthBeach/6897/contest2.html

Just to clear up some facts. The first and second place finishers will each
receive a package with a two page spec sheet written by Mark (he even put his
"John Hancock" on it), 9 fully populated Bc4 bicore hextiles, 4 Bc5 tiles and 1
populated Bc6 tile.

Here's a collage of a couple correspondences with MarkT...

Oops, sorry. Had to whip up the specs in a hurry.

The Bc5s were meant for power distibution points, battery/capacitor holders
and have pads placed on 6mm centers to accomodate two small momentary
switches or one large momentary 4 lead switch as can be found commonly in
Digikey catalogs. They can also accomodate a variety of tactile and vision
sensors common to biomech tech.

The Bc6 is set up currently as a cluster of SMT UB red LEDS with the common
anode to the inside, and 1.8k in line resistors to each. The center can be
drilled and a sensor placed there to make a radial emitter/detector for
edge of table and/or remote communication options. Sensor of choice is the
Semiens detectors Dave H. sells through solarbotics, though not exclusively.

In all, the boards are meant to be cut out and used in WPR (Wave Process
Regulator) structures that allow for 2d and 3d Nv controllers. The idea
was to make a board with the minimum spanning tree of geometric components
that could be fashioned into exotic, reliable devices showing the elegance
of process flow characteristics.

If you cut out, stack and shear the boards, you can make a fine lizard like
walker while still being able to see the lights.

>Are you willing to judge this contest again?

Sure, but I can't guarentee how quickly I'll be able to get around to it.
When is it and what are the rules this time?

>PS. Any new stuff to share from your end of the woods?

Just deadlines, and that springs make a fine form of leg for pocket-bots.
Also, I'll be on PBS special next Weds, the 19th on a space technology
program.

Look for me also in the upcoming Star Wars movie as the 6'5" Jawa wearing a
hat.

Later.

markt.
