Hello Wilf,

You are truely a walking electronics encyclopedia (and inventive as well) !!

>I believe that for steady state conditions the most efficient waveform for a

Quadrature is pi/2 out of phase?
My 'electronic feeling' also said a sine wave at first, but later I thought
its maximum should be more near the start of the period, which is sort of
what is being done in the commercial stepper controllers a you describe it,
if I understand well.

>If you like to use these 4 wire steppers for a true Beam application you can
>use a reversing master-slave BiCore to drive them.

and play around with the phase lag of the slave relative to the master to
get optimum force and smooth operation ....?
