Subject: [alt-beam] FLED and 1381 SE success

Hello list,
I had not been keeping up with the list since midterms because of school
and SE frustrations. I found it very odd that I got a bicore up and
running the my first try but was having nervous fits over the SE. Of
course as soon as I decide to try again there is a flurry of messages in
my box about those pesky little critters. Well, long story short, I
finally got one to work!

problem 1 I had mixed up my bin of FLEDs and regular
LEDs. I can say now that the SE will not work with a non FLED. The
mistake was found by using the handy dandy step by step SE trouble
shooting guide. Thank you very much and I agree, it should be added to
the FAQ. (Does it FLASH!? No, then put it a seperate bin)

problem 2 I still had not learned the pinout for a transistor and the
book I was using had a typo so I was using incorrect pinout. I think that
a small pinout chart for transistors and 1381s would be another good
addition to the FAQ. I know it sounds really basic but it is a question
that I have seen asked on the list many times. (personally I think the
entire "geting started in electronics book" should be in the faq)

problem 3 motor hum and lots of it! had to switch to a smaller resistor,
150 ohm to be specific. All electronics claimed this is a hi eff. motor
but I guess this is not the case.

But it still kicks nice and hard at 2.2 v using 1381c and 2n2222. This
should make for a fairly active magbot.

I hope my mistakes help
and thank you list!
RZ
