Exactly my problem with those modules; the stabilized 5V
requirement. But the Egg Hunt allows any IR beacon now. Only the
average power is limited:

Modulated IR beacon: Circuits for several modulation frequencies to
be supplied. Possibly something like this, with a few extra
emitters to guarantee reception in a 90 degree arc.
Height: 3cm, so the light is not blocked by the obstacles. Always
at the center of the gathering arc.
Participants may provide their own IR beacons, as long as the average
current consumption does not exceed 10mA at 5V, and the emitters are
at a height of 3cm. A stabilized 5V source will be available.
