Sharp IS1U60's don't operate correctly at 3.3 volts, and so are not very
solar-firendly.
There is a 3 volt IR module, I've got that PDF file here somewhere....

Also the IS1U60's are much more sensitive than the GP1U56X series as
well as being
much smaller and lighter. I highly reccomend the IS1U60's, but only if
you can afford to
give it a very clean 5 volt power supply.
