ok.. here's another suggestion:

Instead of using an IR becon for the bots to home in on after they've
found the foil Egg, couldn't the walls of the Gathering Area be black
with all the other walls of the Playground be white?? The walls might
have to be a bit higher than the proposed 2cm though, to let the bot
'see' over the obstacles, and to block out any interfering light values
outside of the Playground.

I'm not sure if this would work better or not, but it would be *easier*
to make sensors that look for 'dark' instead of '40kHz modulated IR
output'

just my opinions.. take em for what they're worth... I was working on
some schematic ideas for my "Egg Hunter" and figured I'd make a sugg.
