Subject: [alt-beam] Bicore Head

I just completed tinkering on my first bicore head prototype

It works surprisingly well. Using a suspended bicore -which you can see
sitting on the top- and a 254 motor driver. I freeformed the bicore but
used a motor driver I had already built on a pre-fab IC board (that
increased its size greatly) Soon will build a transistor H-bridge to
decrease its size in order to mount it on a bot that is under
construction.

here are some pics and a AVI of "Shuggy The Head" tracking a flashlight:

I built the gearbox out of a $2 wall clock I bought at the dollar store
(The kind that runs off 1 AA bat.) the motor is the head positioning
motor ripped from a CDrom drive (quite efficient, draws 35ma through
gearbox)

It tracks very good and is quite fast. Once it has locked onto a
stationary light source, the motor stops. It doesnt bounce back and
forth at all until the light level gets very low.

I believe it tracks so well without bouncing because I mounted the
Photo-diodes out front, instead of on the main body.

I am quite pleased, especially because it worked perfectly the first
time I tested it.
