On the other hand, in life you won't see too many shrews with bat wings
(grin). In fact, the biological rule, crudely put, is "if it's a freak,
kill it!" That's why biological evolution is so very slow.
You see the amusing similarity of this with calls for "Beam purity".
It's all in the balancing of order and chaos. Hmm .. I meant, in Beam
lab experiments always mix equal parts of science, technology, art and
imagination, stir and then add a little salt to taste.
