Sorry somebody treated you that way, I understand you know electronics!
Actually Chiu gave the answer but you probably didn't realize it.
Your PNC problem is simple : you connected Vcc and Gnd to the RC in
reverse! So instead of holding the output high for a few seconds and
then low after, it operates in reverse. By adding an extra inverter
at the output you corrected the problem but with extra parts.
Anyway I hope this helps. Have fun and keep on learning more about these
funny little Beam circuits (ie BiCore) which are sometimes hard to
understand even for electronics experts.
