No, it should always be a shiny silver looking color. Try cleaning it on a
damp sponge everytime just before using it (while hot). Otherwise, you can
buy "tip cleaner" that seems to re-energize the existing tinning on the
tip. About $8 CDN, but well worth it. Makes my tips last 3 or 4 times
longer than usual.
