Subject: [alt-beam] Re: Soldering Tip Turned Black
Now, if you do things right, your one tip can last a long, long long time.
Tinning is the key to this. What you do, mostly when you first get your
iron, is cover the tip with solder, and then wipe it away with a spung. That
way, ever after, all you have to do is wipe it with a spunge and it's
spaniking shiney new. Yep. Always solder with a wet spunge so your tip stays
clean. I learned all this the hard way, but now I use a weller iron I picked
up at CMU last summer, and it's still great. Heck with those Rat-shack
irons. Which by the way, are great in my opinion. Cheap and Cheap. (Price
and quality!).
