Is the microcore free form, breadboard, protoboard, or custom PCB? Check
for shorts, flux (if it's soldered, and not on a breadboard), and make
sure you tie the grounds for the two supplies, and MAKE sure that this
is possible. I personaly have used a 5 volt regulator on a 9 volt
battery and run the electronics with the 5 volts, and the motor driver
off of 9. It should be possible. Add a .1 uf capacitor accross the + and
- of the 74HC14.
