I'm not suggesting we replace the system you mention, just adding to it. We
do seem able to well document the electronic side of BEAM. Maybe because
electronics have always been considered an intellectual property. What I
propose is adding a similar system to the bodies that are evolving that use
those brains. The Beckingham genome would explain the physical arrangement of
the already established Photopopper electronic arrangement. I think a system
by which we can document the automatons physical characteristics and why they
look that way has been ignored. If we had a reference of all the bots that
came before ours, and how they combine electronic circuits with proven
mechanics, it would help accelerate BEAM evolution. I wouldn't have to
constantly reinvent the wheel. I could try yours, add to it, make it function
differently, and maybe if I'm lucky, make it work better. We do this through
copying from photos and tutorials now, which is good. It's something anyway.
Maybe the tutorials could be expanded into more areas and designs with the
contributor stated. But instead of spreading them all over the web they need
to be combined in an official capacity sanctioned by Tilden. I would be happy
to do that with any bots I build and display. I thought about doing tutorials
online, because if you think about it there has been an explosion online
lately of bot populations using the Beckingham genome (I'm sorry for using
that term but I can't think of a better way to say it). It seems to me that
BEAM evolution is tightly bound to the availability of tutorials. We copy,
share, and add to the ideas. If that ain't artificial selection at it's best
I'll eat Tilden's hat.
