Most electronic parts can be damaged by too much heat. My data sheets
for
solid state items (transistors, integrated circuits) give a maximum
temperature of 260 Celsius for no more than 8 to 10 seconds, at a
distance of 1 mm from the body. I suspect resistors will take a little
more heat. Capacitors and diodes probably will not.

Solder melts at about 220 Celsius, so as soon as it begins to melt, you
are very close to the maximum temperature.
