UTC, formerly known as Greenwich time, often referred to as "Zulu" (e.g.
in radio communications) is 5 hours ahead of Eastern STANDARD TIME.
There is no such thing as "daylight savings" with UTC. This means those
of us who have switched to daylight time have caught up one hour. Is
this confusing or what? Since not everyone in the world uses daylight
time, here's an updated chart:
UTC 22:00 = 10:00 PM zulu
Pacific 14:00 Std = 15:00 daylight = 3:00 PM daylight
Mountain 15:00 Std = 16:00 daylight = 4:00 PM daylight
Central 16:00 Std = 17:00 daylight = 5:00 PM daylight
Eastern 17:00 Std = 18:00 daylight = 6:00 PM daylight
Atlantic 18:00 Std = 19:00 daylight = 7:00 PM daylight
And if you really want to check, sign onto http://www.weatheroffice.com/
and click on your province (or USA weather, or World weather), and then
click on a city reasonably close to you (some are on the map, some are
in the list below it). In addition to the weather, you'll see your local
time as well as UTC (but ONLY if your computer's clock is set
correctly). Actually, it doesn't matter where you look at the weather,
the display will show YOUR computer's time plus UTC.
I checked this on my map, my pocket handbook, and the weather office
site, so there is a reasonable chance that this is actually correct. But
no guarantees.
Regards,
Bruce
