I'd suggest connecting your largest cap of known capacitance to it and
compare the running time (use a multimetre to check that you're charging
it to the same voltage if poss).

I've got the same problem with Hotwheels X-V racers. They charge from 3
AA's for 10 seconds and run for over a minute on an incredibly
inefficient motor.

Anyway - what are these cox planes? Where would I get some and how much
would they cost? In other words, are they a useful source of big caps?

The complete hotwheels cars cost about Euro$9, and as far as my
guesswork goes, the cap is 5V and seems to be at least 2F, yet it's only
13x23mm, so they're well worth it.
From the performance, I suspect they're 2F, yet from the size and price,
I keep thinking they've got to be 1F, it's difficult to tell as my next
largest cap is only .033F, but charge and discharge times from the
hotwheels cap seem to be far more than the expected 6 times greater.
