Subject: [alt-beam] Some ideas about. Soccer Bots?

What kind of behavior does a soccer'bot need? Mark Tilden may have already
produced 'bots that have it.

Tilden's Monocore robots already have shown that they can distinguish between
light and dark objects & light and dark parts of a mini-Jurassic park. As a
result, 'bots that are programmed in a complementary manner form two relatively
uncoordinated teams that can sort objects... put all of the objects of one
brightness at one side of the park. If both "teams" are attracted to the same
brightness of object but still were attracted to opposite brightnesses of the
park a competition would result...

I'm not sure how you can get a Monocore to successfully push a dark object
toward a light background (or vice versa) because if it is attracted by dark
objects it ought to be attracted to the Dark Side of the Arena . I do
remember it had to do with how he set up the IR sensors' fields of view.

In any case, the 'bot doesn't have to be very "intelligent" to show basically
the correct overall behavior. Perhaps Mr. Tilden will publish a guide to the
Monocore... something like its basic schematic (I believe he released that
only for the purposes of one of the Telluride workshops) and what sets of
parameters he has tried & what behaviors they produce. More information than
that would be asking too much of the gentleman.
