I wish! I would love to see such a source as well! All the search
engines come up with large industrial manufacturers. I don't need 10
foot diameter gears for my walker. I want 10 millimeter gears!
Unfortunately, the demand for toys and clocks with modifyible gear boxes
indicates that we have yet to find a decent source. NUTS!
My recomendation, is to try to learn the art of modifying OTU's (Oven
Timer Units) and McDonald toys. My first walker used an OTU style
gearbox out of an alarm clock. It takes patience! You also need to pop
open some of those things to modify! It's possible, but not fun. Trust
me though, many clocks can be modified. Often, OTUs will have an
enclosure,a dn only one gear. the magnetic flux from the inductors move
a slightly magnetic disk attached to the input shaft, and is most likely
within a metal enclosure. They are a pain to modify, but possible.
Dryers might have a useful gear box in the timer. Has anyone tried the
tear shaped timers (2 inch diameter AC motor on a tear shaped gear
box)??? How do they work?
