Subject: [alt-beam] Gears for all

OK, this information should be helpful to everyone:
Call 1-800-362-4308 and ask for a Lego Dacta mail-order catalog. This is
their educational product catalog. It is all technic stuff, no kiddie
legos here.
Some samples of what you can buy here:

Gear Set $6
2 pully wheels, 3 8-tooth gears, 2 24-tooth gears, 2 24-tooth right-angle
gears, 2 Worm gears, 2 racks, 2 large pulley wheels, 2 16-tooth gears, 4
12-tooth small gears
P/N 779900

Pneumatic Cylinder
$5.00
P/N 779778

Pneumatic Circuit
1 Cylinder, A long piece of hose, 1 large pump, 1 valve
$9.00
P/N 779776

Axles and Extenders
Assorted lengths of crossaxles, a total of 48 pieces, as well as 6 "shaft
couplers"
$6.00
P/N 779943

They don't mind selling to individuals, I've bought some greta stuff from
them. They used to make a 4.5V motor system, but it has been
discontinued. They may still have some laying around, though.
Standard shipping charge is $6 for orders under $100, and they get it to
ya fast.

Also check out the main lego "shop-at-home" catalog, they have some
fantastic baloon tires, from 1 1/4" all the way up to 2 3/4" (diameter).
They also have some nifty things like a pack of 35 chain links that mesh
with their gears(I've used them, and they work quite well). They also
sell the following gear pack:
for $4.50 (shipping and handling is included in all the prices), you get:
1 great little differential gear housing, complete with 4 12-tooth gears
to go inside, 2 worm gears, 4 racks, 4 8-tooth gears, 2 24-tooth gears, 2
24-tooth right-angle gears, 2 16-tooth gears, and one weird 16-tooth gear
that doesn't lock on a crossaxle-I don't know what its for...
that, BTW is P/N 5229, and if you ask me, it is a better deal than the
other gear set.
They also sell shock absorbers, beams, nifty toggle oints, connectors,
liftarms, triangles, and rubber band/pulley sets.
Note that some Technic sets have really really cool parts in them that
are NOT sold seperately, such as blue air tanks for the pneumatic stuff.
Interestingly, they sell a set of loading grabs, including two different
bukcets and a metal crane hook...anyone want to make a BEAM bulldozer?
Heh heh heh...
Oh I almost forgot. They have these new silver-rimmed balloon tires that
are very attractive, and would be very good for making a custom
Suneater-type bot.
Call 1-800-453-4652 for a regular Lego catalog. Note the different phone
number.

Anyway, I hope this helps all of you who like legos like me...

Unfortunately, my gears ain't for sale. Sorry ;-)

Jonathan
