:Greetings List, just going to add a few pennies to the pot..
:
:The fact is that many a BEAM site is identical to another site. Yep. My
site
:is one of those usual BEAM sites. There's nothing wrong with that. I build
:sites mostly for myself, not for others. Not all the sites can be as
:elaborate as Ian's. There seems to be 4 classes of BEAM sites. The greats
:(BEAM Online, Fang's, BEAM Tek, Solarbotics, etc), the usual average
(SunBEAM,
:RobotCentral, Bumper's (steve's), My site [not to say mine is as good as
some
:of these...yet], etc), the galaries (you know what I'm talking about), and
the
:no-content newbies (most of these turn into the usual average but some just
:stay barren). There can only be a few "greats" and the "usual average"
class
:is pretty good and allows for expansion. There are plenty of galaries and
:these are just fine, they allow us to show off our bots. .... Ok, I don't
know
:where I'm going with all this...On to something more specific...
:
:> It seems to me that it would
:> be quite hard to have an original BEAM site, with the likes of Fang's
and
:> Ian's sites having so much information and being so complete. Maybe if
we
:> just think of them as BEAM galleries, instead of websites that are
supposed
:> to inform with news and tutorials etc (which Ian and Fang already have
:> covered
:
:Ian's site is very complete and frankly, my favorite BEAM site. Now, what I
am
:about to say may scare, perhaps even shock some of you 8)!
:Not to seem negative or anti-fang (new term? hehe) but, I do not think
Fang's
:site is all that fantastic. It's got excellent news and a great "How to" on
a
:photovore but that's about it. Sure, there are pictures of some neat
walkers
:but that sums it up. Perhaps the reason that people always see Fang's site
as
:one of the best is because the information it _does_ give is high-quality.
:Either that or just because it was one of the first BEAM sites (am I right
on
:this one?).
