Subject: [alt-beam] ARG, stupid 'vore! + V vs A
Greetings List,
I recently build another photovore, using the "photopopper" curcuit and the
instructions on Fang's site. I used a 22x33 sunceram solar cell from SB. I was
happy just I getting it to work the first time around but later I began to
observe irking problems with it >grrr<.
First of all, it doesn't trigger at 2.7 like it's supposed to. Sound familar?
That's right, ProtoBot has/had the same problem. Why the heck does this
happen? I'm using 1381 Js. Probably something I'm doing wrong. Maybe my crappy
soldering iron. It's very, very irritating.
Another thing I noticed is that the solar cell isn't so great. The cap
charges to about 2.5 or so when 2 ft away from a 55 watt light. Maybe I've
just been spoiled by the 37x33. The thing is I was told that current is "soo
much better" than voltage. Now I'm thinking "yeah, right!". I used to just
take their word for it, even though I didn't understand it. ProtoBot (the one
with the 3733) fires much more frequently than this new guy. Now I believe
more voltage is favorable (as long as you have enough current to drive the
curcuit) and I will continue with this belief until it is _proved_ (or at
least explained) otherwise.
BTW, to those of you who don't know, the 22x33 produces more current than the
33x37.
