Yes, I've used these on CPU-controlled robots. You can use:
- A/D to convert voltage to base 2
- comparator to convert voltage to single binary digit, Hi/Low
- can use an op amp configuration
- can use a pre-made comparator chip
- use CMOS NOT or NAND

You can use them in normal analog-bias circuits (ie BEAM) too...
