That may be true but I have not seen a crystal with a frequency lesser
than 10 kHz. The easier to find in junk (and common) are probably the
36 KHz crystals from wristwatches etc. and still others are in the MHz
range. To make them usable in the a bot for control (timing), one will
have to use divider chains needing additional chips.
