A simpler and easier method is to use your bench top power supply.
Assuming you have a current adjust, turn the current down putting the power
supply into a curent limiting mode.
Is also a good 'quick&easy' method to recharge a nicad/nimh.. turn the voltage
up to about 2V per cell.. and select your charge current via power supply
current limiting.

no... this isnt a cue to start frothing at the mouth over battery charging
methods.... don't do any of the above if you dont have a clue.
