Okay, I was just reading the BEAM tek page at the bottom where the ideas and
hints were stated. Then I saw the one talking about using an electromagnet
to produce motion (like Magbot does). So, I figured that if you took a SE
and hooked up a coil to it, mounted on the back mind you, and then took two
strips of aluminum and bent 'em slightly...okay, this is doing no good. I'll
ASCII it:

The bit to the left is a steel plate, the arcing bit is the aluminum strips
and the really stripey bit is the electromagnet. This would work like one of
those electric bells, or a relay, because when the e-magnet turns on, the
steel plate smashes into it. That would give the bot a literal "kick", and
would knock it forwards a bit. Then the e-magnet would turn off, and the
steel plate would snap back. You might even be able to make a photovore with
two of these, mounted at 45 and 135 (respectively) degree angles to the back
of the p-vore. Then which ever one kicked would send it tumbling into the
opposite direction. Cool, eh?
I can't find any coils or the wire for any coils for the life of me, so if
anyone wanted to experiment, well, that's why I posted it to the list. Call
it the e-kick engine and I'll be happy, unless you can think of a better
name. That shouldn't be too hard =)
Signing off,
