Jet Propulsion Laboratories and many of the U.S. Department of Energy
National Laboratories fund robotics research (although not necessarily
autonomous). Many Universities with good graduate engineering programs
also fund robotics research (such as MIT, CIT, Ohio State, GIT, Stanford,
Carnegie Melon, etc.). What is important and interesting to note is that
all (almost all, industry does fund some) comes from the same sources the
NSF, the DOD, and the DOE, which are in a way the same body.
