this. My view of BEAM robotics that it's a fun hobby, and that's OK! I
personally am not trying to design a humanoid, but have used BEAM concepts
to teach myself about electronics, and to design some fun and interesting
"toys". I'm into model railroading also, and a single locomotive that
basically goes forward and backwards and has a headlight on it can run into
the hundreds of dollars, even though there are MANY vendors that produce
them.

BEAM doesn't HAVE to be expensive! I have built, for example, a Photovore
with touch sensors for $17.00(US), a Symet for $8.00, a hopping bug like
thingy for $9.00, and a combination photovore/photophobe/line tracking robot
for under $25.00! They're not going to vacuum my house, but I get a great
deal of satisfaction from them, I've learned a lot, and other people are
fascinated by them. In my view, a perfect hobby.

Sincerely,

Lee Golden
