This brings up an interesting question. Do these cells (a) have a
decent voltage curve when the discharge rate is within specs and (b)
have enough voltage to run a solar engine? If so, you could make a
"photo"popper with them that runs on a battery. Unfortunately, since the
cell would be in parallel to the capacitor there would be a low-impedance
path when the engine fired but perhaps that wouldn't be a problem.

Yeah, I've liked Varta stuff since 1982 -- decent batteries.
